We had a doctor's appointment today and the boys got great reviews! Generally everything looks good. Both boys are growing well and guess what - Ari is taller than Saro!! However, Saro is still the heavyweight. The doctor was very surprised that they are gaining weight so well exclusively on breastmilk (with no formula supplementation). Here are their stats:
Ari
Height = 21 inches
Weight = 7lbs 6oz
Saro
Height = 20.5 inches
Weight = 7lbs 13oz
I haven't had a chance to download the latest pix from the camera. As soon as I do, I'll post our first family pic as well as the first decent pic of me and my two boys! the anticipation should keep you checkin' the site ;) hehe.

sleepless in Thornhill...
It seems my posts are few and far between these days. Every time I try to log in to type a few words, someone starts crying or it is time to feed the boys AGAIN...
This week was Serdal's first week back at work. I was very sad to have him leave - it was so nice being our little family for 2 weeks - but someone's gotta bring home the bacon so off he went. However, I've been very lucky that my dad took 2 weeks off work and has been coming by every day. I don't think I would have been able to handle being alone all day quite yet so it has been tremendously helpful having him here. He lets me get at least 1 nap in every day between feedings, changes lots of diapers, soothes crying babies, and has even cooked for me! He's been amazing - thanks dad!!
However, times are still tough in the Citak household... It seems Saro hasn't quite figured out that being in his crib in the dark means it is time to sleep. Somehow, he thinks it means it is time to stay awake and cry which leaves us pretty exhausted. There was one night this week, I think it was Wednesday night, where he slept well - waking up only for feedings. It was miraculous. However, it didn't last and he was up to his old tricks last night. The lack of sleep combined with what feels like the constant feeding is not a fun combination. However, i don't envy Serdal who is dealing with a lack of sleep and going to work AND missing his boys!
Well, i've been asked for more pictures so i am trying to take the time to pick a few to post. I'll try to do that more often, even if i don't have a chance to write much. (click on the picture to see a bigger version).

Finally... an update!
Well, i finally have a chance to update my blog! As most of you are probably aware by now, Saro & Ari Citak were born on Sunday March 11th... almost 2 weeks ago! I just haven't had a chance to update this blog since the boys have been keeping me pretty busy. I have a few minutes while they're napping... so i'll try to squeeze in as much info as I can before someone wakes up!
Here's a pic of me just before heading to the hospital. It's hard to believe how huge I was!! Then again, looking at my boys now, i wonder how they were both inside me just a short while ago!!
Labour was actually not as bad as i would have thought (thanks to the drugs!). I went to the hospital to be induced on Saturday March 10th. They broke my water around 11pm. 9 hours later (plus an hour to adjust for Daylight Saving Time) the boys were born! (By that point, I was 38 weeks, 5 days pregnant!)

We were released from the hospital on the following Wednesday and have been at home since. The boys are doing well and have steadily been gaining weight. We had a doctor's appointment today and found out they've already surpassed their birth weight! (In case you don't know, babies lose weight after they are born and the doctors want to make sure they start gaining it back. Ideally, i think they want the babies to be back to their birth weights by the 2 week mark.) So today, Saro weighed 2950g (6lbs, 8oz) and Ari weighed 2800g (6lbs, 3oz) meaning they're both doing well!

i can't believe it...
it's crazy... tomorrow night, i will be induced!!! wow, it's so surreal to think that my life will change completely in the next 2 days.
An update for those of you that have been hearing about the NICU at Women's College Hospital being shut down due to an infection... i spoke to my doctor today and it is still safe for me to deliver at WCH. First of all, the likelihood of my babies needing NICU time is small at this point. Further, if they do need it, what the hospital has done is divided up the NICU to isolate an area to make it a "clean room". So though they are not accepting outside patients to the WCH NICU, if a WCH patient should need it, there is currently a clean safe area that can be used. If they run out of room there and we need NICU care for either of the boys, then since we are 38+ weeks, we would just be transferred to a local level II hospital since we don't need the level III care that only WCH (and Mt Sinai) provide in Toronto (for babies younger than 32 weeks). So don't worry about us, we'll be fine!

well that wasn't fun
On Monday night, I'm not sure what happened but Serdal and I both fell sick with some kind of stomach flu or something like that. Our stomachs were hurting and we were throwing up etc. After emptying my entire stomach, i couldn't even keep water down so we went to the hospital. I was very dehydrated so they gave me some IV fluids. They checked on the babies and they're doing fine so they just kept me there from around 3am-10am to replenish my fluids and run some blood tests. The tests came back ok so they sent me home.
this really wasn't a fun experience... Serdal and I are both feeling a bit better now and i'm just trying to recover my strengths for when the boys do decide to finally meet their parents!

So i've had some requests for a picture of just how huge i am now... so i got Serdal to take some on Friday but i must warn you i don't look my best! view at your own risk. I think when we measured on Saturday, my waist was a whopping 46".

still waiting...
i really have no new news... i'm still sitting here and waiting for babies. getting a little tired of waiting but I'm trying to be patient and "enjoy this quiet time" as everyone keeps telling me.
just thought i'd post to let those of you that still check know that it's not quiet because i'm busy with babies. it's quiet on this blog because i have nothing new to post - still waiting for babies!
