possible birthday set

Went to my weekly doctor's appointment today. Babies are comfy/cozy and growing. They weighed 5lb 8oz and 5lb 10oz. The big news of the day is that we set a date with the doctor for inducing me if the babies don't come on their own. The date is Sunday March 11. It happens to be about the only day in the next 3 weeks that he's on call and it falls within the recommended week where i should be induced (he said it should be anywhere between 37 weeks, 5 days to 38 weeks, 6 days). So that's about 2.5 weeks away. If they can wait that long, that would be great because i really like that date. I never thought i'd make it that far so i never considered it... but both Serdal and I are born on the 11th (as well as my sister, cousin, and grandfather!) so it would be cool...

Of course, the doctor is going on vacation next week so i bet my boys will decide to show up then... Apparently the doc has a condo in Aruba or something like which explains his frequent vacations. No fair! i want to go to aruba.

Twin Study

i found out today that i was randomized to the natural birth arm of the twin study... so basically, no different than if I hadn't joined the study except that they'll use my data to help the study. That's fine with me :). Of course, they will monitor me like normal and, if there is any indication, they will do an emergency c-section. So really, no different than if i hadn't joined the study. Seems a little anti-climatic but i was getting a little nervous about having a surgery if it wasn't necessary...

i also received my bedding today so i can't wait to get it all setup in the babies' room. I'll post some pics once i've done that.

I'll be seeing the doc again next Friday at which time I think he'll be setting a date to induce me that hopefully works with his schedule. until then, we're just counting down 'til the babies decide to join us...

quick checkup

I had a quick checkup with the doctor today and he said things seem to be going well. I decided to join the twin study so a nurse will be calling me to tell me how I was randomized. They also did a growth scan of the boys today and things look okay. Placenta, amniotic fluid, all look okay.

Though the doctor wasn't concerned by it at all, I was disappointed that the boys were measuring a little on the small side. Baby A is still heads down and weighs 4lbs 13oz (48th percentile) and Baby B is now transverse and weighs 4 lbs 6oz (27th percentile). The doctor didn't seem concerned so I guess i shouldn't be worried. I just thought they'd forsure be over 5 pounds by now... but i guess this is what they mean when they say that twins will be smaller than a single baby, even if they're born at the same gestational age. come on boys! grow for mama!!

trip to the hospital

Yesterday, i wasn't feeling all that well and, at night, i started to have frequent contractions. When we started to time them, we realized they were happening almost every 8-10 minutes so we headed down to the hospital. There they hooked me up to a monitor to check the babies' heart rates and to monitor my contractions. The heart rates were good, even through the contractions, so they did a fetal Fibronectin Test (like they did when i was originally put on bedrest) and it came back negative! That means there's a 90+% chance that i won't deliver in the next 7-10 days! So with those results, they sent me back home, a little tired but feeling a lot more comforted.

so today, i'm taking it easy (easier than even usual) to try to avoid having the contractions again. so much for easing up on bedrest restrictions at 34 weeks...

doctor update

so i went to the doctor today for a check-up. I'm 33 weeks and 1 day today and things are still going well. Baby A has flipped again and is now heads down! Even the doctor is surprised he's still flippin' around! So, if Baby A stays head down, then I won't have to have a c-section. However, the doctor says there are pros and cons between deciding the method of delivery...

There's a twin study the doctor is running that would randomly select either natural or c-section. He asked me if I want to join... I'm not sure. If I don't join, then we would go forward with a natural delivery unless something happens to warrant a c-section, which would likely be an emergency situation. If I do join, then it'll pick for me. not sure what to do... i was hoping my doctor would tell me what I should do but he really isn't...

last night, we had our last prenatal class and the class was about "after the babies are born..." We had 2 people from a previous prenatal class whose babies were just under 3 months old come in and talk to us about their experience. The whole thing really freaked me out. I'm not one of those people that's freaked out about the birth. I'm freaked out about everything afterwards. One of the mom's had a full-time live-in nanny AND had hired night-help for 5 days a week for the first 2 months. (The night help costs like $30/hour!!!) The other mom had a schedule of family staying with her for 2 weeks at a time. So when her husband went back to work after 2 weeks, her mom stayed with her for 2 weeks, then her mother in law, then her sister, then her sister in law. So she had solid help until the babies were 10 weeks old. Our plan - Serdal goes back to work after 2 weeks and then i'm screwed. ahhh!!! deep breaths.

baby shower (with pics)

what can i say but wow. my baby shower was yesterday and it was amazing. The place was beautiful - we had afternoon tea in the Roof Lounge at the Park Hyatt. Everything was so nicely done, all I could think was that it was exactly what my mother would have loved. My sister did an amazing job, i don't know how she had the time to organize so much. I'm so grateful to have such loving people in my life - my sister, sister-in-law and friends that took so much time to put this together for me even though they are all so busy with their own lives.

It was also so nice to see so many people there to celebrate our boys with us. There were quite a lot of people that came from Montreal, i was really surprised by that. I got to see family and friends that i can't see as often, and even got to spend some time with them on Saturday afternoon. It was really nice.

here are some pics that i have from the day.

what's new?

so, not much is new over here, which I guess is why I haven't written lately...

Last week, we received our baby furniture and Serdal assembled the cribs right away. We soon realized that the furniture is quite tight in our itty bitty little rooms. We tried a few configurations and i think we've settled on one, though it's not really perfect... one of the doors to the closet Serdal just finished can't really open all the way, but you can still fully access the closet so we think we'll leave it this way for now.

we obviously still need to decorate but here are some pics... we'll get the bedding / decor in a few weeks so that will help start it up. You can also check out Serdal's beautiful paint job :)

i'm still struggling with the carpet in our family room. Almost everyone I asked (except Sanj) liked the lighter colour carpet better, but i think I prefer the darker one just because it is softer and feels less "cheap" in the material. It would be ideal if there was a two-tone one that was plush, but we haven't seen one without spending a lot more at pottery barn or something like that. For those of you that still haven't been exposed to the carpet dilemma, here are some pics...
